Mama Ponchos is more than a brand. It’s a journey that connects tradition, culture, and empowerment. We bring handmade ponchos & shawls, purses and accesories from Ecuador and Mexico to the United States, crafted by indigenous women artisans who preserve ancestral techniques while building brighter futures for their families.
Our Story, The Founders
At Mama Ponchos, family, faith, and tradition are at the heart of everything we do. Born in Spearfish, South Dakota, our company was founded by an Ecuadorian wife and husband (Veronica and Mauricio) who share a deep passion for bringing South America’s rich heritage of craftsmanship to the world.
From the Andes mountains to your home, our products carry the spirit of generations of artisans who have perfected their skills in weaving and leatherwork. Each poncho, shawl, and purse tells a story, crafted by hand, inspired by culture, and designed for today’s lifestyle.
What We Stand For
- Fair Trade & Ethical Sourcing – We ensure every artisan is compensated fairly.
- Handmade Craftsmanship – Each piece is unique, carefully made by skilled hands.
- Empowering Women – We work directly with women in Ecuador and Mexico.
- Culture & Tradition – Our products preserve techniques and patterns that risk being lost in the modern world.
Why Mama Ponchos?
